101 Arte Contemporáneo Ecuador Vol. I
This publication presents the most comprehensive survey of current art practices in Ecuador to date. By placing them in their cultural, social, and political contexts, the book assesses emblematic artworks lauded for their formal and conceptual significance, as well as their thematic orientation. The works in this first volume were selected and discussed by art historians and curators who not only experienced these processes up close, but whose insights helped shape the country’s nascent contemporary art scene. This book illustrates for the first time the diversity and creative force of Ecuador’s virtually unknown artistic production, situating it among the region’s most idiosyncratic and noteworthy.
